Morocco Unveils its First Car Brand

17/05/2023

Morocco is currently the largest car manufacturer in Africa. Over the first three months of 2023, the automotive industry marked a 44% year-on-year increase for exports.

This week, the first Moroccan car brand, as well as a hydrogen-powered vehicle prototype was presented to His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This echoes the King’s has consistent encouragement of entrepreneurship and creativity within the Kingdom, specifically of Moroccan youth.

This new initiative, which follows the High Royal Directions to direct the private sector towards productive investment, will strengthen the “Made in Morocco” label, which is important in gearing the country towards being a competitive hub for automotive production.

Neo Motors, is looking to open an industrial complex, which will be dedicated to manufacturing vehicles for Morocco and internationally. It is expected to create 580 jobs.

As for the hydrogen-powered vehicle, which is set to be released in 2025, it is a reflection of Morocco’s shift towards clean energy sources as well as decarbonisation under the leadership of the King.

Another of Morocco’s ambition is to emerge as a hub for electric car production. Studies have suggested that Morocco has a great potential for production of green hydrogen, and this is only strengthening. This project has positioned Morocco within the international momentum towards new forms of transport which are both efficient and conducive to climate action initiatives.
